After 30 hours of travel, I have arrived in Cape Town! On the way I had the pleasure of stopping in DC, London, Frankfurt (fell asleep and almost missed my plane), and then finally Cape Town (Sans luggage, but now i have it) at 5:00am on Monday!
Cape Town is incredibly beautiful. I'm staying with 6 other students at a huge house in Camp's Bay which is definitely a place to be "scene." (We passed 3 red ferraris on day 1.) I'm living with Daphne (France), Jacek (Polish guy from Spain and NY), Malin (Swedish girl from Denmark), Asbjoern (Denmark), Berta (Anderson), and Kristen (Anderson). So it makes for a very international and cozy home. When you sit in our sunny backyard (with a pool we have yet to try), we look up at the 12 Apostles which is a beautiful mtn range. From our Patio and dining room you can see the Atlantic ocean! A 10 minute walk down the hill takes us to a Camps Bay's main strip that I said to my European friends looks like Europe (because of all the sidewalk cafes and bars), but they say its like California because of the Palm Trees. Someday I'll upload pictures, but its been a feat even getting online! Last night, out to dinner we met 2 native south africans who shared stories about growing up in S. Africa and how to cuss in Afrikaans :) (Fok Jo was a popular phrase, you can probably figure it out) They asked me to tell them about the U.S. which led to a political discussion and which led to discussing 24, which led to us agreeing that President Palmer would be an amazing president.
Today is the first day that I've actually left Camp's Bay and came to school to pick up my books which really puts a damper on being in such a beautiful locale :) I also got a mobile phone so if you feel like chatting I'm at +27-0711796494. Hoping to see some more sights this week after I finish getting administrative stuff done.
Take care! I'm going to try to actually keep this updated a few times a week so we'll see :)
